Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season
The second-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept sixth-ranked Texas in three sets (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) in their home opener on Friday night at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Longhorns fell to 1-1.
Stanford was led by junior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer, who had a match-high 16 kills. Senior outside hitter Morgan Hentz added 12 kills, and senior libero Morgan Hentz had a match-high 17 digs.
Texas was led by senior outside hitter Micaya White, who had 13 kills. Junior middle blocker Brionne Butler added 10 kills, and senior libero Sydney Petersen had a team-high 13 digs.
The first set was close throughout, but Stanford pulled away late to win 25-21. The Cardinal led by just two points at 18-16, but they went on a 7-2 run to close out the set.
Stanford carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. Texas fought back to tie the set at 14-14, but the Cardinal went on another run to win the set 25-19.
The third set was also close, but Stanford again pulled away late to win 25-21. The Cardinal led by just two points at 18-16, but they went on a 7-2 run to close out the match.
Stanford's victory was their 16th consecutive home win. The Cardinal will next face No. 13 Illinois on Saturday night at Maples Pavilion.
